Many (so-called) electricians have only completed a six week theory based course and have little or no practical experience at all – incredibly these schemes are Government Approved and on completion of these courses these ‘electricians’ are often able to register with the NICEIC or an equivalent body.
I know from personal experience that practical supervision with a qualified time-served electrician for at least 2 years is essential to produce a professional electrician who has been taught the correct way to do things, rather than acquiring bad habits through his own trial and error or worse still omit to put all the necessary safety in place, which may only be discovered when it is too late.
